Nirmal and Hemali were enjoying a romantic evening at the Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York City. The iconic Manhattan skyline offered the perfect backdrop. Nirmal started with a speech, but his words were ruthlessly subdued by the noise of a train passing by. The noisy scene ended as Nirmal offered a ring. Hemali did not hear a single word, but standing amidst a silence, she realized that Nirmal officially proposed to her.

Just eight months earlier, Nirmal Bhakta and Hemali Patel were strangers and two students at the New York University College of Dentistry. A mutual friend introduced the two. Now, after many days spent together and hours of chatting, they both know they were made for each other.

Now the real challenge was to sketch a perfect wedding plan. Adding to the complexity was a wish from Hemali’s parents – a wedding near their home in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though the newly engaged couple resides in Dallas, Texas, Hemali agreed to the wish. After all, nothing supersedes parents’ wishes!

Sangeet The theme for the sangeet was Moroccan infused with an ethnic tradition ambience. As the tradition goes, the bride was offered gifts by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Her gifts included an array of beautiful sarees, lehngas, and jewelry. The mehndi night was organized in a purely traditional Indian style with decorations of paisley design panels and lighting décor.

Wedding Ceremony The wedding was initially to take place outdoors overlooking a golf course, but due to weather conditions, it was moved indoors at the last minute. The priests performing the ceremony hailed from Chicago, Illinois. The stunning bride’s two mamas (mom’s brothers) walked her down the aisle. A natural mandap was lushly decorated with exotic flowers. The structure was custom-made by the decorator Prashe.

Hemali drew from an ethnic look, as portrayed in Indian epic tales, as inspiration for her make-up and hair. Her maroon and rusty orange colored saree with zardosi threaded embroidery and Swarovski crystals gave her a royal look for the ceremony. Her jewelry was from Udaipur, Rajasthan, and the custom detailed lehnga and saree was custom-made from Seasons India. She wore her hair up in large curls with ornaments and white orchids enhancing her poise.

Her six nieces were the flower girls, and they wore similar lehngas which were custom made at Sequence in Baroda. Interestingly, while Hemali was having her reception make-up done she fell asleep and started sleep talking to her make-up artist. She has a genuine piece of advice for all brides-to-be, “Stay well rested before the event.”

Reception Large, tall centerpieces were eye-catching as the guests made their way into the reception hall. The high ceiling of the venue offered enough space for the centerpieces to rise with beautifully arranged bunches of hydrangeas, orchids, and roses in large vases. All the flowers used were flown in from South America. Two ice sculpture bars with the couple’s initials were also the center of attraction.

During the wedding lunch, chefs offered fresh dosas to the guests. For cocktail hour, grilled vegetables, paneer tikka, manchurian, and Indo-Chinese were available. For the main course, the menu featured traditional Punjabi fare. Andy’s Passage to India provided the catering. Dessert was provided by Cupcakes from Blushing Bakery and Pinkberry, a frozen yogurt franchise based out of NYC, where Nirmal and Hemali went on their first date. The wedding cake was made up of 300 small cupcakes beautifully decorated with edible orchids matching the real orchids used for the decor.

Nirmal’s cousin Vishal sang his toast, which he pre-recorded using an iPhone app to imitate rapper T-Pain.

DJ Smarty kept spirits up throughout the evening. The couple walked in to Souja Boy, since Nirmal enjoys rap music, and the duo’s first dance was to the “Empire State of Mind part 2” by Alicia Keys. During the dance, a video clip of the two filmed in New York City played in the background. Hemali’s father-daughter dance was to the song “Yaadein,” which was memorable and heartfelt.

The royal looking couple made an equally royal getaway in a Rolls Royce.

The couple’s story began at the mandir, where a chance meeting blossomed into something deeper. After dating for seven months, they knew they were meant to be. Their engagement became an unforgettable moment when Mitesh proposed on Hemangi’s birthday, May 6, 2024. The day started with a stay at a Hilton hotel and an early morning trip to Celebration Town near Disney in Orlando. Despite a last-minute change from a hot air balloon proposal due to weather, Mitesh created a beautifully decorated lakeside picnic where he got down on one knee. Hemangi, who had been both excited and nervous, was overwhelmed with happiness as the surprise unfolded.

For wedding planning, the couple turned to Elite Dream Creations, a decision they wholeheartedly recommend to others. Their planners handled every detail with precision, easing stress and ensuring smooth execution. Hemangi and Mitesh chose their venue for its convenient distance from the airport, abundance of amenities, and photogenic surroundings—ideal for capturing memories of a lifetime.

Their pre-wedding festivities included the Vidhi ceremonies and a vibrant Garba night. The groom’s Vidhi featured a cream backdrop with a burgundy-red Ganesh, while the bride’s Vidhi used a similar cream backdrop paired with a golden rose Ganesh. Garba décor included draping in orange, fuchsia, violet, and mint green, a Radhe Krishna statue at the entrance, and special seating arrangements for the couple on stage. They also arranged entertainment such as a 360° photo booth and a caricature artist—something especially meaningful to them after having a caricature drawn during their first trip to Universal Studios.

The wedding ceremony took place indoors, with the Baarat in the Majestic parking lot and the ceremony in the Majestic Hall. The décor featured a haveli-style open-wall mandap adorned with red and burgundy flowers, a raised aisle lined with 75 floating candles, fresh rose petals, and two floral elephants at the entrance. A Ganesh statue greeted guests, adding a traditional blessing to the event. Music played a special role, with Indian tunes energising the Baarat. Mitesh entered with his parents to the Game of Thrones theme, the flower girl walked to Jashn-E-Bahaaraa instrumental, Hemangi entered to Aaj Sajeya, and the couple exited to Neha Bhasin’s Jutti Meri folk version.

Instead of a traditional reception, the couple turned their Garba night into a lively celebration filled with speeches, entrances, and dances. Family members entered first, followed by the bridal party, and finally the couple. Their first dance was to a mix of Indian songs, followed by a touching father–daughter dance to Dilbaro and a mother–son dance to Tu Kitni Achhi Hai. The evening featured multiple dance performances—and a surprise performance by Mitesh and his friends dedicated to Hemangi.

The couple added personal touches like custom trays for their engagement rings, mangalsutra, and gifts. Their biggest “wow” moment was their emotional first look—an instant they will cherish forever.

For future couples, Hemangi and Mitesh strongly advise hiring a wedding planner or coordinator. For them, Elite Dream Creations made the entire process seamless, from vendor coordination to décor decisions. While they didn’t have nightmares or major calamities leading up to the big day, they now look back fondly on the beautiful moments that made their celebration truly theirs.

Their wedding was a blend of culture, colour, heartfelt moments, and family traditions—an unforgettable beginning to their life together.

They were brought together by garba. And a surprise trip to Venice took their relationship to the next level. A proposal under the Rialto Bridge, an engagement ceremony in India, and a grand wedding in Atlanta – Shruti and Hiren’s wedding is a fascinating fairy tale, indeed!

Thanks to Amit, a mutual friend of Shruti and Hiren Patel, the two met on a garba dance floor. They enjoyed many garba dances together for the years that followed. Long phone calls brought the duo closer, and the friendship kept blooming.

With a week long vacation coming soon, Shruti planned to spend time with Hiren’s family. Hiren picked her up and on way to home, he unfolded the first layer of surprise in store for Shruti. He revealed that the two wouldn’t be staying at home all week; instead, they would be leaving for a trip the next evening. Shruti could only think of a couple of places in the United States where they would probably go. It turns out that Hiren planned a romantic trip to Venice, Italy. His plan was perfect, and even Shruti’s family knew what was in store for the couple. The trip was not the last surprise in store for Shruti. Once in Venice, Hiren scheduled a gondola ride. As they approached the famous Rialto Bridge, Hiren got down on one knee and proposed to Shruti. In one of the world’s most romantic and picturesque spots, the answer could only be “yes.”

A few months later, the two had an official engagement ceremony in India. Shruti and Hiren planned to tie the knot later in the United States, and it was only then that they realized the difficult task ahead. Both families agreed that Atlanta would be the best option. With only a few months to plan, it wasn’t an easy to find a venue that could accommodate the expected number of guests and also be available on the desired date. Finally, the couple chose Marriott Marquis in the heart of Atlanta. While the exterior of the hotel was not too impressive, the beauty of hotel’s Atrium Banquet Hall struck the couple.

Attire

For the wedding, Shruti opted for a choli, which was adorned with green, red, and gold designs on a white background. The blouse was a corset style, boat neck, with short sleeves. Her jewelry was a mix of real gold pieces along with some additional matching pieces, all of which came from Gujarat. Hiren wore a dhoti salwar with red embroidery on a white background to match Shruti’s trousseau.
Shruti’s hair was beautifully styled up for the ceremony. For the reception, she chose to keep her beautiful curls down and flowing. Traditional and elegant makeup gave a pleasing angelic touch to the beautiful bride. Aarti Amin, the hair and makeup stylist, is an expert in making brides look natural.

Raas, Garba and Sangeet
As the couple’s love story began with garba, it was fitting that the duo organized the sangeet portion of the pre-wedding events as a raas garba. A garba singing group, which was from India on a tour around the US, added much life and festivity to the event.

Décor
An aisle lined with pillars of vases embellished with fresh flowers including green goddess callas, hydrangea and roses, was displayed to welcome guests. A golden arch gate trailed up to a golden mandap draped with burgundy satin drapes on the face and gold sheer drape as the backdrop. The mandap also had a clear ceiling layered with a carpet of fresh rose petals.

During the planning phase, the couple decided on a red and gold theme, but left the details to expert decorators from Shangri La, who suggested a peacock theme for the reception party. The professionals proved their worth, and the end result was much better than expected.

For the reception party, tall vases with a beautiful arrangement of peacock feathers, gold curly willow branches, and fresh purple and blue orchids were displayed throughout the hall. Some tables were adorned with square transparent vases, all of which were filled with white orchids and teal colored water.

A professional disc jockey set the mood for the party, and the couple’s friend, Charles, surprised all by becoming the emcee for the evening, making the night even more delightful! Performances by friends and family from both sides surprised one and all. With a beautiful amalgamation of dances and skits, friends and families truly showcased the love story of Shruti and Hiren.

Royal arrival
A special highlight of the ceremony was the way in which both Shruti and Hiren made their wedding entrance. Shruti arrived in a golden-ivory open doli, which was carried by her maternal uncles and brothers.

Hiren’s arrival was no less royal. He arrived with the jaan in a full-fledged vargadhodo, followed by a wireless DJ and horse and carriage. Two downtown Atlanta streets were closed for two hours, and police escorted the groom as he was followed by a procession of friends and family dancing and enjoying every moment.

Happily Ever After
Each and every guest left the magical event with a set of custom-made personalized shot glasses that double as candle holders. This was an ideal memento from the love-birds and their families to mark the auspicious day.

Shruti, with a big smile on her face, sums it all up, “It was actually a fairy tale wedding.”

Though Reenal and her boyfriend, Saurav Sharma, knew that they wanted to live with one another, they decided to wait until they completed their postgraduate courses before they finally got married. The result was a ten-year relations hip before a final marriage date could be set.

Reenal, a 27-year-old optometrist, and 30-year-old Saurav first met through mutual friends. In 2010, on New Year’s Eve, the two created a magical memory, one that will no doubt be relived for many years to come. On the pretext of taking her to a special concert, Saurav took Reenal to the Disney Boardwalk, where they enjoyed each other’s company on their first date ten years ago. An unsuspecting Reenal played along until they sat on the same bench, and Saurav waited until no one was around before he got down on one knee to propose. It was then that nerves took over, and Reenal melted away into tears as she said yes. Quite understandably, there is little that she remembers about who said what. The most important thing was that she accepted.

With just ten months to go before the wedding, the two threw themselves into planning their special day. Rather than use the services of a wedding consultant, the couple preferred working with their families to ensure all arrangements were made with a personal touch.

The pre-wedding functions included a mehndi, sangeet and raas garba, which were all held on the same night. It was during this event that the true feel of wedding celebrations thoroughly took over everyone’s spirits. Needless to say, there was delicious food and drink as well as infectious music to keep everyone waiting with eager anticipation of the events to come. Nearly 300 guests attended the festivities, and the DoubleTree Orlando Hotel at the entrance of Universal Studios made for the ideal venue.

The same venue was the backdrop for the wedding ceremony, and the guests attended adorned in full grandeur. The ballroom was the chosen venue, and with its space, lighting and decor, it made for the most exquisite setting. An important factor in the selection of the venue was its accessibility due to its central location. Moreover, outside catering was allowed, making it possible for the families to dine on their own selection of Indian cuisine.

The reception exhibited the same enthusiasm and participation witnessed during the wedding. With a DJ and dholl player, who had been brought in specially, no one was spared, and few guests could keep themselves away from the dance floor. As soon as the touching speeches and toasts were complete, the dance floor was the center of attention. Everyone was so busy dancing the night away, that many almost missed the cake cutting!

Reenal and Saurav, a calm and happy couple, did not have anxiety or cold feet before the wedding. Considering they had looked forward to this special moment for so long, there was just keen eagerness on their part.

Reenal does offer brides-to-be some practical advice. Wiser for having gone through the motions, she suggests the bride and groom take in every moment of the wedding and reception as best as they can, since it will pass quickly and be over before they even know it. “Soak it all in,” Reenal says with a smile. With so many memories and delightful events to look back on, we know that Reenal and Saurav will relive their wedding celebrations a thousand times over in their thoughts and dreams.

There is an ongoing debate about whether a love marriage is better than one arranged for you. While girls secretly hope they will meet a prince who will sweep them off their feet and others fantasize of running away to have an intense wedding in solitude, there are still a number of marriages being arranged where parents decide who the suitor will be.
There is definite charm about an arranged marriage. The idea of being part of a family that accepts yours and whose values match yours go a long way in making married life easy for you in the long term. There is definitely a thrill about meeting someone, getting to know them, and developing a romance along the way. Great anticipation, plenty of excitement and so much mystery surround an arranged marriage that it sometimes feels like the only way to be married.

If you should have any doubts about an arranged marriage, ask Marium Mukati, a physician from Florida. She first met her beau in November, and they married in July after a whirlwind of activity and romance. Introduced by a mutual friend, the families met before they decided to move things forward. On November 16, the fateful day Marium finally met software engineer Mohsin Rizvi, the man with whom she is destined to spend the rest of hewr life. After several meetings the following week and a few meetings after, Marium and her family gave their acceptance, and a small party was arranged on February 17, when the couple was engaged.

With only five months before the wedding date, there was plenty of excitement and great momentum. Marium made a trip all the way to Pakistan to put together most of her trousseau. Once she returned, planning moved to a different level and began with meetings with various vendors, a laborious process which paid off well in the end. Although Marium and the Mukatis looked into all the details personally, they had a decorator assist them with the arrangements at the venue, the mehndi, and the wedding.

With a keen eye for detail, Marium was interested and involved in planning from the start. She looked into every minute detail herself. The fruits of her labor were seen at the mehndi and wedding ceremonies. Months of planning, purchasing and decision-making went by quickly, as did the ceremonies themselves.

The day of mehndi finally arrived, and Mehfil Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was packed to capacity with about 250 members in attendance. Friends and family from both sides came enthusiastically to partake in the celebration. Mehfil was the obvious choice for its ambience, capacity and also versatility, which made it easy for Marium to manage its decoration the way she preferred. Mohsin and his family walked in first, followed by Marium, her four closest friends, brother and sister. They were led into a tastefully decorated area that contained both traditional elements and incorporated subtle shades of contemporary hues. Umbrellas and centerpieces were highlighted traditional themes, while the stage was used to showcase Marium’s creative and refined side. A small ritual, during which the bride’s family fed the groom sweets and the groom’s family reciprocated, was followed by unbridled fun. Dinner was sumptuous, and the dance floor became the center of focus. The celebration began with performances by Marium’s sisters and friends, after which everyone joined in with abandon. Needless to say, celebrations went on until the late hours of the night. This was a special occasion for everyone, and even Marium made me most of it, not allowing the veil covering her face to come in her way.

Soon the morning of July 8 arrived, and everyone knew it was magical from the start. The Hilton at Fort Lauderdale Airport readied itself to receive 400 guests, and the bride and groom prepared themselves for the most momentous day of their life. It took several meetings with the coordinator Barry Rubin before Marium was reassured that everything was to her taste, and it reflected in every element visible. Marium arrived in the afternoon leaving enough time for finish her makeup and attend the outdoor photo shoot. The couple had already been married in separate ceremonies for the bride and groom as is customary in all Muslim weddings. Marium had the nikkah the day before at her residence. Mohsin, on the other hand, enjoyed his nikkah during the Friday prayer at Islamic Studies of Broward Mosque on the day of the reception.

With all formalities completed, Mohsin was shown his way into the reception hall, followed by Marium and her family. The hall dazzled with the use of maroon fabric, which portrayed a grand ambiance, and crystals that shimmered in anticipation and excitement. Moving away from the conventional, Marium decided against the customary red, and instead chose a white ensemble with subtle hints of red. Her family followed her lead on this day, complementing her attire with shades of red in their clothing.

The reception began with rounds of appetizers, and a ceremony during which Marium was gifted a ring and Mohsin a watch from the other’s family. After cutting a cake and saying a quiet prayer for the newlyweds, the reception finally came to a close. For Mohsin and Marium, the celebration of a new life was just beginning.

Although Marium spent much of her time planning the celebrations, she took in every moment of the wedding. She advises that all brides and grooms relax, and savor every moment. May Mohsin and Marium enjoy wedded bliss, joy and peace forever.

The friendship between Radha and Mahesh that began at Duke University grew through chance meetings. It continued to strengthen when the two went to Washington, DC, for internships. A tennis game date with Radha watching and Mahesh playing, ended with the first sweet kiss – a transgression from friendship to love. The teens graduated and became professionals. Work led them to distant places. Understanding the complications in a long-distance relationship, the two soon decided to part ways but still remained friends.

It took twelve long years for them to understand that they indeed were soul mates, inseparable.

Official Proposal

Mahesh did an extensive research on diamond rings, and made several rounds to the wholesalers and jewelers all around. He finally settled for one. Mahesh planned a weekend trip to Clearwater beach of Tampa Bay area. Setting the tune for the evening, Mahesh took Radha for an exotic lunch at the Hispanic beachfront restaurant – Columbia. After lunch, enjoyed a luxurious couples massage at Sand pearl Spa Resort.

Then Mahesh rushed her to the hotel – The Renaissance Vinoy. At the balcony of the hotel suite, with the scenic harbor view in the background, Mahesh went on one knee and officially proposed Radha. Goes without saying, Radha accepted.

Knocking on the door, soon after the proposal and acceptance, was a bunch of unexpected guests – the couple’s families. Mahesh had already taken their consent. The proposal plan worked out perfectly. Only that the plane with banner flying behind… “RADHA, WILL YOU MARRY ME?” while the two were standing in the balcony, as planned by Mahesh didn’t appear. The cloudy sky that evening didn’t let the flight take-off.

The Wedding Plan Orlando offered an excellent location for the event since the couple wanted the guests and their families have a blast at Orlando’s theme parks. That’s why they chose to have the wedding on a holiday weekend, Memorial Day Weekend. The Grand Cypress Hyatt was the venue of choice due to its beautiful architecture and trusted advice from the their Event Specialist, Angela Palacio.

The Garba and Raas took place in the Hyatt Ballroom. The Garba-Raas Gator group as well as a Bhangra Gator Group performed in between the Garba and the Raas. A dhol player was present to keep the music of the occasion festive and live.

Jilna of Suhaag played a key role in translating the dream vision of the couple into a real life event. Not only did she translate the duo’s vision for the entire week of events into an exact reality but also garnished with additional surprises in the final décor. The additions were more than welcome.

The Wedding Ceremony was staged as a traditional Royal Indian wedding in a gold, red, green, and ivory theme. The elegant ceremony remained short and timely. The priest, Mahesh Gor, with an eye for frames proved to be a fantastic key-man for the photographer, DJ, and the videographer. At the end of the ceremony, Mahesh and Radha exchanged personal vows. As a traditional Hindu ceremony, the priest recited shlokas in Sanskrit and one of Radha’s uncles interpreted the recital.

Radha appeared for the ceremony by walking down a spiral staircase. At the bottom of the staircase, she was greeted by her mamas (mother’s brothers), who were followed by her brother and her father.

The Reception party centered around a Western Crystal Palace theme with Swarovski crystals everywhere, blue lighting giving an ice-life effect, and white draping throughout the entire ceiling.

Music for each of the events the events was kept as personal as possible. The tracks included original music written and composed by Radha and her brother. Special performances of the evening included the Father-Daughter Dance to the track “Pull Me From Heaven,” the First Dance to “Love Me Right,” and a special piano performance by the bride’s brother. Radha herself wrote “Pull Me From Heaven” signifying times soon after her birth. She as a baby had almost died due to a fatal illness. Her parent’s faith in God made her survive. During the wedding ceremony, Radha chose to walk down the aisle to “Latika’s Theme” from Slumdog Millionaire. In this special version, the voice-overs in the track were pre-recorded by Mahesh and Radha.

The final production truly represented east meets west entertainment. It began with Bharatnatyam dancers, followed by fusion dancers, and ended with Cirque performers in an aerial performance. DJ Firoz was called in for the evening and dhol player Sunny added to the fun for bhangra enthusiasts. Dancers from the University of Florida included the groups of Bhangra, Garba, Fusion, and Bharatnatyam.

Bridal attire Radha’s clothing and jewelry was all custom-made and bought in India. Her wedding dress prominently displayed her favorite colors, red and green, and less of the typical red and white or red and gold. She wanted the outfits to look rich with a lot of embroidery, but not over the top. For the Garba Raas, Radha dressed in blue to match the festive and colorful peacock theme.

Radha’s reception dress precisely met her personal vision that she had visualized since her teenage days. She always wanted to marry according to Indian traditions and style, but was also enamored by the ‘white dress.’ She herself designed the dress to look like a crystal princess. And so she was. Her jewelry too was magnificent, very bright and catchy, especially on camera.

The Wedding Cake The cake looked grand! It was about five feet high on its own platform. A crystal gateway was created for the cake with hanging Swarovski crystals. In the middle of the cake, there was a large white crystal shimmering elephant. It was a centerpiece all on its own.
